Ok… I admit it, I was skeptical at first. And yes, I have spread the rumor in the past. There was a time (until about two days ago) that I truly believed that Groove was a waste of space, and that Microsoft only bought Groove Networks to acquire the talents of one Ray Ozzie (of Lotus Notes fame).
The last couple of days though, I have opened my eyes, and realised just how powerful Groove really is. For the uninitiated, Groove is all about collaboration. Not in that structured SharePoint kind of way, or that really unstructured Email kind of way, but somewhere in between. I like to call it… “Structured Unstructured Collaboration”
Groove enables you to create workspaces. Simple enough you say. But it allows you to create one without getting the IT department involved. That’s right, you can collaborate across the firewall, WITHOUT having to open up firewall ports. The power of this is amazing. And that is before you start talking about the online/offline syncronisation capabilities which are unreal, or the tools you can add to your workspace… for example, a tool to manage all your meetings
If you are interested in learning more about Groove, head on over to another site I run called The New Paperclip. I am running a bit of a series at the moment on Groove as I explore more and more of the functionality.
Yeah… I admit it, I am a Groove convert!
